I had such a fun time photographing Melanie and Kevin’s early morning engagement session on Grand Cayman.
They met 10 years ago through mutual friends. Melanie is originally rom Cayman while Kevin is Canadian. Although they lived in different countries at the time, they stayed in contact throughout the years and built a strong friendship. When Melanie was accepted into the veterinary medicine program in Ontario, Canada they decided to pursue a relationship. And the rest is history…
Having now dated for over two years, they decided to make it official!
They decided that they wanted to have an intimate wedding by the beach. Since Melanie was born and raised in Cayman, they wanted incorporate her Caribbean roots along with Kevin’s diverse Goan-Indian background in one place. Cayman was best suited their vision as they are both very laid back, easy going people and love the water.
I ask Kevin what he loved most about Melanie and his answer was plain an d simple: “What don’t I love about her?” He continued: “What attracted me to Melanie in the beginning was her selflessness and how family oriented she is. As our relationship blossomed, her desire to help animals and those around her truly shinned through. Watching how she cared for abused and neglected animals inspired me to do the same. She brings out the best in me and encourages me to be a better person everyday.”
Melanie said that what attracted her to Kevin in the beginning was his overflowing compassion. She explains: “For the past several years, Kevin has been caring and tending to his ill father, Francis. Seeing his genuine love and care for his father truly showed me the person that Kevin is. Without thinking twice, he will always put the needs of others above his own. His love is pure, never-ending and genuine.”
They decided on an early morning engagement session in Grand Cayman, to capture the crystal clear water. They wanted to really showcase the love that they have for each other and the chemistry between them. An early start allowed to go to some places that a usually busier during the day.
The overall vibe of our photoshoot was very relaxed and fun. They loved taking our pictures at Smith Cove where Kevin got a little taste of what it’s like to be an ‘island boy’ by walking out bare foot on the iron shore.
Melanie’s advice for other couples looking to do an engagement session in Cayman is : “To let your guard down and loosen up. Janet did a great job at making us feel very comfortable and allowed us to be ourselves.” She contiunes: “The session flowed so nicely. It felt very natural and we had no issues. Towards the end we started to loosen up a bit more and we were having so much fun we forgot that we were taking pictures!”
